Community Health Programs

Rural & Urban Community Health and Awareness

“While accompanying Bodhi to visit the villages, I met an extremely gentle, gray haired man with striking, light colored eyes. He is the doctor who has been traveling by bicycle to give medical care to the most remote villages of the Sundarbans (the Gangetic delta islands) for the past 30 years. His devotion and the genuineness of his compassion are evident in his every gesture, in every humble glance, in every flicker of light in his heartbreakingly kind eyes.”

- Ann Shannon, President LDLF

Medical Facilities for Poor

The Mission has been providing inexpensive, homeopathic medical care to the island villages of the Sundarbans as well as Kolkata since 1987. Homeopathy stimulates the body’s immune system without the side effects caused by pharmaceuticals and has proven highly effective for most chronic and acute diseases of those living in these remote villages and slums.

Urban Medical Programs

One mobile medical van rotates through Kolkata’s slums and street corners, treating an average of 200+ patients a day. There are close to 18 outdoor slum clinics, catering to thousands of economically deprived patients who would otherwise receive no medical care. We care for 180,000 patients annually for free, making referrals for allopathic care whenever necessary.

Rural Medical Programs

Charitable Homeopathy Camps are regularly organized for one to four days a month. Each doctor treats an average 550 to 600 patients every month. There was no deviation from that schedule, even at the peak of the pandemic. Serious cases are often brought from the villages to Kolkata for further treatment and eye care.
